About a year ago after I ,Davin Chew, earned my Life rank in Scouting, I was given advice to use an eagle project idea generator. It was a quiz over stuff you find interesting, and it would compile a list of projects relating to that. When I did mine, one of the top results was a kiosk. The reason why I picked this option was because of the logistics of the project, and it would be more original compared to a bench.
On October 18th, my Scoutmaster and I had a discussion about my project and what he thought about it. He and I discussed designs and what to come up with. I ended up initially mixing between 3-4 designs that I saw and that he saw as well. Late November-early December, I had a discussion with the park board for Hagerstown Park about my project. We were originally going to do a metal roofing, but decided to switch to shingles because to make it stand out more. Mid-December, I met with the eagle project coordinator for my Scouting District. After a hour of discussing the logistics and what he advised me to do, we ended up adding some more tweaks to the design. An example of what we changed is what material of wood we needed to buy since Lowe’s had a bit more available material than what Menard’s did. And a little later after that, I discussed with the Troop Committee about my project and I got the approval from them.
After all of my approvals were completed and news of the project approvals got out, many people asked if they could donate. I ended up getting a list of donations in cash from several community members and some of the businesses my family works for.
When it came to building the project, a good amount of the adult leaders in my unit came and helped with the assembly of the kiosk as well as give me advice on how to make it better structurally. I ended buying another 4 posts to help with stability which ended up making it a more unique design compared to other kiosks that I’ve seen . See this link for pictures Eagle project gallery
